After a two week break for the boys, it was back to the bread and butter of the league campaign today with an away trip to a cold and damp Bradford to play Bradford Park Avenue. To be fair, Bradford is a cold and damp place in August never mind the day before Bonfire night. It was up to the boys to warm our cockles, and keep their place at the summit of division 5. With the boys in their new jackets if anything else we now look the part. Manager Graham Macdonald had an all but fully fit squad to pick from as Billy Farley returned from a wrist injury picked up against the girl’s netball team.

Like Bonfire night this game was over quicker than a sparkler and some of the football was just too hot to handle for the BPA team, right from the kick off it was one way traffic even though BPA tried parkin (get it!!!!)  The bus by playing a very high line, time and again the front two broke the trap with Alex Macdonald and Luke Broadbent and with Jacob Costello all contributing in lighting the blue touch paper! With the game barely two minutes old Cain Wilkinson found the back of the net it would be his first of five that afternoon, his strike partner followed suit with his first of four one minute later, this game was over by the 26th minute mark as the young lions rocketed in a half time lead 0-8. We even had the luxury of missing a penalty.

The second half was more of a contest as GM utilized his squad to the full and gave all his subs plenty of game time, with Alex Macdonald scoring a brace in the game and new debutant Raman (m.o.m) finding the net after the goalkeeper could only parry a shot straight into his path, as the dying embers of this game began to flicker out the home team just wanted to hear the final whistle.

Editor’s thoughts, once again excellent boys 6 out of 6, Graham, Marcus and I can not fault the effort and desire you boys put in each week. Special praise this week goes to Joe Moutell and his back three, who often do the donkeys work so the others in the team can bask in the sunlight, it’s a team game boys all for one and all that, but on a difficult pitch I thought our keeper Joe handled and kicked well from hand or off the ground and was alert when he needed to be.
