Welcome to a cold but sunny King James for this second home game of the season where the young boys in blue were looking to win five on the bounce and maintain their position as league leaders. The squad were down to its bare bones as we had one injured, one away on international duty and one who couldn’t be bothered to turn up, leaving the management team with no available subs. So this was the team that would have to play the full sixty minutes.

                                       Joe Moutell

Rico st Hilaire         Briayar Maghdded       Aidan Wilkinson

Luke Broadbent        Alex McDonald              Harry Baines

                   Cain Wilkinson          Harry Smith

Any fears Graham and I had that this could be a testing game were dispelled in the first 15 minutes as the two front men had chance after chance and with Alex Macdonald pulling the strings in midfield ably helped out by Harry Baines and Luke Broadbent, the two front men ran the defence ragged. Harry Smith opened the scoring on five minutes and with that the floodgates opened, with his strike partner Cain Wilkinson scoring a 8 minute hat trick on 7, 9 and 15 minutes and with some better finishing both should have had more. But within a minute of going 4-0 up the young lions were given a little reminder that there were two teams playing today and Dewsbury West pulled one back after some lax defending. The goal somewhat spurred the away team on but some excellent defending by Briayar Maghdded and his partners in crime kept the score line the same as half time came.

HT Almondbury 4 Dewsbury 1

With manager MacDonald’s words ringing in their little ears the young lions put this game to bed within six minutes, so often the provider Alex McDonald got on the score sheet as his effort hit the crossbar then the back of the head of the luckless away keeper before crossing the line. After missing some gilt edge chances Harry Smith decided it was time to score again and completed the second hat trick of the game with goals on 33 and 36 minutes after good work by his strike partner and Harry Baines. With ten minutes to go Dewsbury got their second of the match after manager Graham MacDonald had bowed to peer pressure, then on 56 minutes the goal of the game by man of the match Rico, a 25 yard free kick that was in the minute it left his foot. All was left was for A Macdonald to wrap things on the stroke of full time to get his second and the team’s ninth.

Editor’s thoughts, well done boys you all played the full 60 minutes and all your hard work is starting to bare fruit, from the keeper to the boys up front, you worked hard for each other and got your rewards. Also big thanks for Darren Broadbent, Kevin Moutell and Richard Baines for taking down the nets and helping out at the end, Graham and I appreciate it
