JJ Sporting Fc hosted Ujumaah u19 at Three Rivers on 11 April 2026, with kick-off at 10:30am in a crucial league fixture. The home side endured a difficult morning as Ujumaah u19 ran out 4-0 winners in this 11-a-side encounter over 90 minutes plus added time.
JJ Sporting Fc lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, deploying Lulama Mbatha in goal. The defensive line consisted of Bongi Nkosi at right back, Siyanda Maseko and Sipiwe Mashinini as central defenders, and Mongezi Mogapi on the left. The midfield trio featured Lutando Mngomezulu on the right, Thulasiswe Khubekha centrally, and Tumisho Khambule on the left. Up front, Khaya Simelane operated as the right forward, Zanokuhle Mguni led the line as striker, and Thabo Tsotsetsi took up the left forward role. The substitutes available were Smangaliso Hlanhane, Amohalang Makhoba, Siphesihle Zondo, Mzilikazi Nokwali, and Lindokuhle Mkwanazi.
The match began with JJ Sporting Fc showing attacking intent, but early on, Thabo Tsotsetsi was flagged offside in the fifth minute, halting a promising move. Just nine minutes later, a tactical change was forced as Smangaliso Hlanhane replaced Sipiwe Mashinini in central defence, perhaps responding to early pressure from Ujumaah u19.
Ujumaah u19 struck first in the 16th minute, breaking the deadlock and putting the hosts on the back foot. JJ Sporting Fc’s attempts to respond were hindered by another offside call against Zanokuhle Mguni a minute later. Despite this, Bongi Nkosi tested the opposition keeper with a shot in the 21st minute, followed by a close-range effort from Mguni in the 26th minute, both failing to find the net.
The visitors doubled their lead in the 28th minute, further compounding JJ Sporting Fc’s woes. Moments later, Smangaliso Hlanhane made a vital clearance in defence, showing his value after coming on early. JJ Sporting Fc came close to reducing the deficit when Thulasiswe Khubekha’s strike rattled the crossbar in the 39th minute, and Mguni’s attempt was saved two minutes later.
As the first half drew to a close, further changes were made with Amohalang Makhoba and Siphesihle Zondo introduced for Thabo Tsotsetsi and Thulasiswe Khubekha respectively, signalling a shift in approach. The half ended with JJ Sporting Fc trailing 2-0.
Early in the second half, Zondo’s shot was saved in the 47th minute, showing some attacking promise. However, discipline became an issue as Bongi Nkosi received a yellow card in the 52nd minute. Defensive resilience was briefly displayed by Siyanda Maseko, who blocked an attempt a minute later.
A costly error from Smangaliso Hlanhane in the 55th minute, described as poor concentration, led directly to Ujumaah u19’s third goal a minute later, deepening the home side’s predicament. JJ Sporting Fc’s attacking efforts continued, with Tumisho Khambule firing a saved shot in the 61st minute and a high effort a minute later.
Zanokuhle Mguni was caught offside twice in quick succession around the 63rd and 64th minutes, stifling any momentum. Amohalang Makhoba provided a key pass at this stage, creating a chance, but fouls by Tumisho Khambule and a late tackle from Khaya Simelane disrupted the flow.
Attempts from Makhoba and Lutando Mngomezulu in the early 70s went high, and substitutions followed with Mzilikazi Nokwali replacing Khaya Simelane in the 73rd minute, and Lindokuhle Mkwanazi coming on for Tumisho Khambule four minutes later.
Lutando Mngomezulu delivered a key pass in the 79th minute, but the home side’s defensive frailties were exposed again in the 85th minute when goalkeeper Lulama Mbatha’s misplaced pass led to Ujumaah u19’s fourth goal. Mongezi Mogapi’s shot was saved immediately after, showing some fight despite the scoreline.
Siphesihle Zondo created another chance late on in the 89th minute, but Lindokuhle Mkwanazi was flagged offside in the same minute, ending JJ Sporting Fc’s hopes of a late rally.
Ultimately, JJ Sporting Fc were unable to break down a clinical Ujumaah u19 side and were punished for defensive lapses and missed opportunities in a disappointing 4-0 home defeat.
