Welsh Premier Academy League

The Welsh Premier Academy League is a football league for the youth academies of clubs in the Cymru Premier League. It was founded in 2012 and is currently sponsored by the FAW Trust.

History

The Welsh Premier Academy League was founded in 2012 as a way to provide more competitive opportunities for young players in Wales. The league is divided into two divisions, North and South, with each division consisting of 10 teams. The top two teams in each division at the end of the season are promoted to the Premier League, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Development League.

The league has been won by The New Saints a record 10 times, followed by Bangor City with 3 titles.

Format

The Welsh Premier Academy League is played on a double round-robin basis, with each team playing each other team twice, once at home and once away. The top two teams in each division at the end of the season are promoted to the Premier League, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Development League.

Current Season

The current season is the 2022-23 season. The North division is currently being led by The New Saints, while the South division is currently being led by Aberystwyth Town.
