North East Sunday League

The North East Sunday League is an amateur football league in the North East of England. It was founded in 1921 and is currently the largest Sunday league in the country, with over 400 teams competing in 20 divisions.

History

The North East Sunday League was founded in 1921 by a group of football enthusiasts from across the North East. The league's first season consisted of just 10 teams, but it has since grown to become the largest Sunday league in the country.

The league has been home to some of the best amateur footballers in the North East over the years, including former Newcastle United players Alan Shearer and Paul Gascoigne.

Structure

The North East Sunday League is divided into 20 divisions, each of which is further divided into two groups. The top teams in each division at the end of the season are promoted to the next division, while the bottom teams are relegated to the lower division.

The league also has a number of cup competitions, including the George Wilson Cup, the Monkwearmouth Cup, and the Tyneside Amateur Cup.
