Oriental Football Club hosted Abuson FC at Nyanginja Primary School on 7 June 2026, with kick-off at 2:45pm in a keenly contested league fixture. The home side emerged victorious with a 2-0 scoreline, securing all three points in front of 150 spectators.
Oriental lined up in a 4-1-2-3 formation, deploying Reinhard Ouma Ray in goal. The defensive line consisted of George Ngonga at right back, Sebastian Aboma and Victor Omedo Zeze as central defenders, and Boi Collince Odondi on the left. In midfield, Barack Okumu operated as the holding midfielder, shielding the defence, while Lasco Dola and Tarry Abiero took up the right and left attacking midfield roles respectively. Up front, the trio featured Evans Ouma on the right wing, Yang Ogundo as the central striker, and Ronald Otieno Teddy on the left wing. The substitutes available were Meldon Oker and Wycliffe Osir.
The 4-1-2-3 formation was expected to provide Oriental with both defensive solidity and attacking width. The full-backs were tasked with supporting forward play, while Okumu’s role was to break up opposition attacks. Dola and Abiero were to create chances from the flanks, feeding the front three who were expected to press high and convert opportunities.
The first half saw a tightly contested battle with neither side able to break the deadlock. Oriental maintained control of possession but found Abuson's defence resilient. The half ended goalless as referee Solomon brought the teams in at 45 minutes.
At the interval, Oriental made a tactical substitution, replacing their central striker Yang Ogundo with Meldon Oker. This change aimed to inject fresh energy and aerial threat into the attacking line.
The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute when Evans Ouma delivered a precise cross from the right flank into the box. Meldon Oker rose above the defenders to powerfully head the ball into the net from close range, giving Oriental a deserved 1-0 lead. This goal highlighted the effectiveness of the substitution and the team’s ability to exploit wide areas.
As the match progressed, Oriental were forced into another change in the 79th minute due to injury. Wycliffe Osir came on to replace right defender George Ngonga, ensuring the defensive structure remained intact.
With momentum firmly on their side, Oriental doubled their advantage in the 84th minute. Meldon Oker, now fully involved in the attacking play, combined with Ronald Otieno Teddy through a slick short pass. Teddy finished clinically with his right foot from close range following a well-worked team move, putting the game beyond doubt.
Oriental’s victory was built on disciplined defending and effective attacking transitions. The contributions of Tarry Abiero in midfield and substitute Meldon Oker up front were particularly influential, earning them the player of the match accolades.
Referee Solomon oversaw the match with a steady presence, allowing the game to flow despite some physical challenges. Oriental Football Club’s 2-0 triumph over Abuson FC at Nyanginja Primary School marked a significant step in their league campaign.
