Pinkneys Green 3 – 2 Maidenhead Crown FC / SUNDAY MORNING CHALLENGE CUP ROUND 2

This was our second cup game out of 3 which we have in a row, this time we were away to PINKNEYS GREEN, a well-established div 1 club.

We knew this would be a difficult game, especially considering the home side had scored 13 goals in the last 2 games.

There was not a lot in the early exchanges, however a long ball over the top of our defence led to our goalkeeper conceding a penalty after about 10 mnts.

The goalkeeper, JAMES THOMSON GRAHAM, redeemed himself by saving the spot kick.

Sadly we could not make that work in our favour and we went 1-0 down after around 15 mnts.

After 25 mnts, some good work by our left winger MATTHEW HILLIER resulted in him being brought down for a penalty. Top scorer SAM BROWNE’S effort was saved by the home keeper.

More bad luck was to follow as centre half CONOR HAYNES then scored with a great header but the referee deemed a foul on the home goalkeeper so the goal was disallowed.

A half of bad luck and wrong decisions was rounded of when the home side were awarded a free kick which they scored directly from to double their advantage.

The halftime score was 2-0

We changed a few things around at halftime and starting dominating the play.

Unfortunately on around 60 mnts played we found ourselves 3-0 down.

Immediately from the kick off, great work by JAMES MURDOCH, he won a free kick from about 20 yards out. MATTHEW HILLIER scored with a fabulous strike just under the bar. The comeback was on……

After 75 mnts we scored our second goal, JAMES MCKELVIE hit a great shot from around 20 yards to really make the last 15 mnts interesting…

We gave it our all in the those final mnts, MATTHEW HILLIER struck a shot against the bar and we had other chances as well but sadly it wasn’t to be.

I couldn’t have asked for anymore from my lads, sadly a few decisions cost us today but I am very proud of that second half performance.

We are back at home this Sunday when we welcome DIV 2 outfit ETON RIFFLES to desborough park for our 3rd cup game in a row.
