On 12 April 2026, Lads Club Juniors U12 hosted Phoenix U12 Rovers at Widemarsh Common in a 9-a-side league encounter kicking off at 10:30am. The home side were defeated 3-1 in a match that saw Phoenix U12 Rovers assert their dominance despite spirited efforts from the Juniors. The game lasted the standard 60 minutes plus injury time, witnessed by 32 spectators.

Lads Club Juniors lined up in a 3-4-1 formation, deploying three defenders at the back: Charlie Clueit on the right, Archie Rigby centrally, and Charlie Arnold on the left. The midfield quartet consisted of Finn Jones on the right wing, Zayn Prosser and Flyn Watkins occupying central midfield roles, and Joseph Lee on the left flank. Oscar Jones led the line as the lone striker, tasked with spearheading attacks and linking play through the midfield. The formation was designed to provide defensive solidity with three at the back while maintaining width and creativity through the midfield four, supported by a central forward. On the bench, Thomi Scoular, Chase Bracegirdle, and Theo Lewis were available to inject fresh legs as the match progressed.

The match began with immediate action in goal, as Lucas Price made an early catch in the first minute, setting the tone for his alert presence between the sticks. Just three minutes later, he was called into action again, diving at the feet of an attacker to deny an early chance. Lads Club Juniors’ defence was tested the Pheonix keeper early, with Archie Rigby attempting a shot on goal in the sixth minute that was well saved. Rigby then showed his defensive qualities with a crucial tackle in the tenth minute to halt a Phoenix attack.

At the 16th minute mark, the Juniors made their first substitution, with Thomi Scoular replacing Finn Jones on the right midfield. This change was quickly followed by a defensive block from Charlie Arnold a minute later, demonstrating his importance on the left side of defence. Lucas Price maintained composure with another catch in the 18th minute, shortly before a double substitution saw Chase Bracegirdle come on for striker Oscar Jones and Theo Lewis replace central midfielder Flyn Watkins. Chase Bracegirdle was immediately involved but was flagged offside at 19 minutes due to good defending by Phoenix.

Thomi Scoular tested the opposition goalkeeper with a saved attempt in the 28th minute, Oscar Jones, then returned to the pitch in the 29th. The first half closed with a flurry of activity: Oscar Jones fired wide, Archie Rigby intercepted a dangerous pass, and then Oscar played a slide rule pass to create a chance for Chase Bracegirdle, whose shot went wide. Chase Bracegirdle was then replaced by Thomi Scoular at half time, who promptly sent a high attempt over the bar.

The deadlock was broken in the 38th minute when Phoenix U12 Rovers scored inside the box with a right-footed finish, taking the lead. Lads Club Juniors responded with a substitution at 39 minutes, bringing Flyn Watkins back on for Joseph Lee on the left midfield. Shortly after, Finn Jones returned to the right midfield position, replacing Thomi Scoular, while Chase Bracegirdle came on for right defender Charlie Clueit at 41 minutes. Archie Rigby remained a defensive rock, making key interventions including a block at 44 minutes.

Early in the second half, Zayn Prosser forced a save with a free kick shot on goal at 47 minutes. The Juniors pulled one back in the 51st minute when Chase Bracegirdle headed home from a corner expertly delivered by Zayn Prosser, giving the home side renewed hope. However, Phoenix responded immediately with a solo goal at 52 minutes hitting Lads Club before they could focus after the goal. Zayn Prosser then fired wide at 53 minutes before Oscar Jones was substituted for Thomi Scoular at 54 minutes.

Defensively, Finn Jones made a vital tackle at 56 minutes, and Theo Lewis intercepted a threatening move at 57 minutes, helping to keep the visitors at bay. Archie Rigby’s free kick effort on goal was saved at 58 minutes as the Juniors pushed for an equaliser. Unfortunately, Phoenix sealed the victory with a close-range tap-in at the 60th minute, finishing with their right foot to make it 3-1.

Charlie Arnold and Chase Bracegirdle were standout performers for Lads Club Juniors, with Charlie Arnold’s defensive blocks and Chase Bracegirdle’s goal and overall impact earning them player of the match honours. Despite the loss, the Juniors showed resilience and moments of quality, but Phoenix U12 Rovers proved the stronger side once more on the day.
