Greensleeves got back to winning ways with a superb 3-1 victory over The Dugout.
Th first challenge was to get a team together, with many Greensleeves regulars unavailable. A bare 5 started the game, including Sam, who was carrying an injury, with Steve making a return in goal.
Greensleeves made a fast start. Matt squared to Elliot but his shot was blocked well by a Dugout defender.
Almost immediately Elliot returned the favour with a ball to Matt on the left. He took on the defender and fired into the far corner. 1-0.
The lead was doubled shortly after. Elliot robbed the defender and finished well to double Greensleeves' lead. 2-0.
The lead should have been increased further following a scramble, Matt eventually heading the ball along the goal line in agonising fashion.
Greensleeves had to withstand some heavy pressure either side of half-time. Josh and Sam were resolute at the back, getting everything in the way when The Dugout attacked, and keeping possession effectively when required. Steve made his usual contribution in goal, making some superb stops to keep the opposition at bay.
The Dugout were allowed to get back into the game just after the break. A mix-up between Matt and Josh resulted in an easy chance for The Dugout striker. 2-1.
Josh atoned for the mishap almost immediately, however. Thwarting a Dugout attack on the edge of his own area, he drove forward. Time seemed to stand still as he ambled up the pitch. Defenders were closing in from all sides, but just when it looked as if he may get dispossessed, he fired a low shot past the 'keeper. 3-1.
The Dugout threw the kitchen sink at Greensleeves, but the lads nearly extended their lead in the closing stages. Elliot was played through on goal and was crudely fouled as he took it round the 'keeper. The blue card was issued which effectively ended The Dugout's hopes. The resulting free kick was touched to Josh who thundered a shot against the post.
It was the last action of the game, and ended an accomplished Greensleeves performance.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Josh was pivotal in Greensleeves' victory, and seems to have found his level in the Premier League. Rumours of a loan to The Chicken Kievs are a long way off now.
