Another double header for the boys from Boreham, this time against league newbies Sandon who were a few of places above Boreham in the league having played 3 more games. Not knowing what sort of team to expect it became clear from the warm up that their opposition consisted mainly of youngsters.

A squad of 14 made the trip which gave the management options for the two games. The first game, Boreham lined up with Magsy in goal, Parsons, Simpson, Powell and Worthington making up the back four. The midfield comprised of Rush, Charter, Smith and Walsh with unchanged strike partnership Cowcher and Long taking their places up top. Goodchild, Fieldson and Baines on the bench.

The conditions for this first encounter were encouraging with an OK playing surface and nice fair weather. Although there was quite a wind to contend with throughout the game. It seems to be quite a strange match for all concerned with Boreham as despite the scoreline, it appeared as if Boreham did seem to be in control for large parts of the game. Their downfall was, creating any clear cut chance of note so despite limiting their hosts to not much either this was a game where the opening goal was always going to be key.

Sandon got that opening goal towards the end of the first half when a corner was flicked on by the big lad into the path of a Sandon player who smashed the ball home from close range. 1-0 to Sandon at ht.

Unfortunately the second half was a similar story. Boreham controlled for large parts but could really not find a way to threaten their opponents. Then it was Sandon who doubled their lead midway through the half with a well taken goal catching the Boreham back line out with a long direct ball over the top.

Sam Fieldson came on for Charter with around 10 minutes left to play but was unable to impact the game. Not much else to report on as the game ended in a 2-0 defeat for Boreham who were left bewildered as to how and why they were unable to carve out many, if any, decent goalscoring chances. On the next game with the 3 points and a decent performance a must!
