Biggar FC, barely 6 months old, travelled deep into the Borders to take part in their first final. This would be the fouth meeting with their opponents this season with the three previous games being very closely contested.

On a difficult surface at Greenlaw a good following from both teams watched a game that grew with excitement as the game progressed.

Biggar knew before the game that their opponents would be difficult to beat with their never-say-die attitude and this became a reality when Chirnside deservedly took the lead in 22 mins.

Biggar had to adjust before they managed to get a foot- hold in the game. On the half hour a dink over the Chirnside defence from Watson was chased down by Sheridan but as the make-shift striker made his run towards the ball he was taken to the ground by a recovering central defender. A penalty was awarded which Sheridan himself converted.

For the next 10 mins there was little action in either end of the field until a loose ball appeared in the Biggar box which was dispatched into Robinsons net from close range.

It was looking like Chirnside would be taking their 2 -1 lead into the second half when a quick throw in by McKean let Sheridan free in the box. The keeper did well to save his first shot but Sheridan followed in to net the rebound.

Honours even and all to play for in the second half.

Biggar started it with much more purpose than they showed in the first, it was now Chirnsides turn to be on the back foot.

Biggars initiative was rewarded on the one hour mark when Watson  latched on to a loose ball and gave the Chirnside keeper no chance from 10 yds.

For the first time in the match Biggar were ahead and from that moment till the end showed the determination and desire to keep it that way.

Undoubtedly the best day in Biggar FC’s short history and one that should inspire them to greater things in the future, promotion being the next target for them to set their sights on.

“Great win, great support, well done all”
