Zaterdag

Introduction

Zaterdag is an amateur football league in the Netherlands. It is the second tier of Dutch football, below the Eredivisie. The league was founded in 1956 and currently consists of 20 teams.

History

Zaterdag was founded in 1956 as the Tweede Divisie. It was renamed to the Eerste Divisie in 1971, and to the Eerste Divisie Saturday in 2010. The league has been won by 23 different teams, with Ajax being the most successful team with 10 titles.

Format

The Eerste Divisie Saturday is played in a double round-robin format, with each team playing each other team twice, once at home and once away. The top two teams at the end of the season are promoted to the Eredivisie, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Tweede Divisie.
