The Worksop Amateur Football League was founded in 1972 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league started with just four teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has 24 teams competing in four divisions.

The league is affiliated to the Nottinghamshire FA, which means that its teams are eligible to compete in the FA Vase and the FA Sunday Cup. The league has also produced a number of players who have gone on to play professional football, including former Worksop Town player Lee Hughes.
