The league is named after the Chad, a river that flows through Mansfield. The league's headquarters are located at the Chad Sports Ground in Mansfield.
The Chad Mansfield Sunday League was founded in 1972 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The first season saw 12 teams compete in a single division. The league has since expanded to 16 teams and now has two divisions.
