The Lonsdale League is an amateur football league based in London, England. It was founded in 1904 and currently consists of 20 teams. The league plays its matches on Saturday afternoons during the winter months.
The Lonsdale League was founded in 1904 by a group of amateur footballers who wanted to create a competitive league for players who were not good enough to play at professional level. The league was originally called the Hackney and Leyton Sunday League, but it was renamed the Lonsdale League in 1920.
The Lonsdale League has been home to some talented players over the years, including former England internationals Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters. The league has also produced a number of FA Cup winners, including Tottenham Hotspur's Steve Perryman and Arsenal's David O'Leary.
