Introduction

The Central Pennsylvania Indoor Football League (CPIFL) is an amateur football league based in central Pennsylvania. The league was founded in 2008 and currently has six teams: the Altoona River Rats, the Carlisle Crush, the Harrisburg Stampede, the Lancaster Legends, the Reading Railers, and the York Revolution.

The CPIFL season runs from February to May. Each team plays a 10-game regular season, followed by a playoff to determine the league champion.

The CPIFL is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing a fun and competitive environment for amateur football players in central Pennsylvania.

Rules

The CPIFL follows the rules of the National Association of Intercollegiate Football (NAIAF). The game is played on a 50-yard field with 11 players on each team. The object of the game is to score more points than the other team by moving the ball down the field and either kicking or catching a touchdown.

The CPIFL also has a few unique rules, such as:

There is no kickoff. Instead, the team that wins the coin toss chooses to receive or defer.
There is no punting. Instead, the team that is forced to punt can choose to either give up possession or try a fourth down conversion.
There is no overtime. If the game is tied after regulation, the teams play a sudden-death shootout.

History

The CPIFL was founded in 2008 by a group of football enthusiasts in central Pennsylvania. The league's first season consisted of four teams: the Altoona River Rats, the Carlisle Crush, the Harrisburg Stampede, and the Lancaster Legends.

The CPIFL has grown steadily since its inception. The league added two teams in 2010 (the Reading Railers and the York Revolution) and two more teams in 2012 (the Bethlehem Steel and the Scranton Eagles).

The CPIFL has produced some talented players over the years. Several CPIFL players have gone on to play professional football, including:

Chris Diehl, who played in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts and the New York Giants.
Zach Brown, who played in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills, the Washington Redskins, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Devin Hester, who played in the NFL for the Chicago Bears, the Atlanta Falcons, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Baltimore Ravens.
