Central Lancs Junior Football League

The league began with under-13 to under-16 football, later adding younger sections. Its recorded history charts a long-standing local youth competition, including league and cup football across its age groups.

Age-appropriate football

The league’s rules provide for youth football from under-7 level onward, using formats that develop with the players: 5v5 at the youngest stages, 7v7, then 9v9 and 11v11. The competition adopted 9v9 for its under-11 and under-12 sections during the 2010s.

Under-11 football is non-competitive under the league’s approach, with results not published. This reflects the league’s stated focus at that stage on development rather than league position.

Standards and inclusion

The league became a Charter Standard League in 2015 and requires member clubs to attain England Football Accreditation within their first year of membership. Its current rules also commit the competition and its clubs to inclusion, non-discrimination and the FA’s safeguarding framework.
