The Brasileirão Assaí was founded in 2018, as a way to promote amateur football in Brazil. The league is open to all teams in Brazil, and is divided into regional groups. The top teams from each group qualify for the national finals.
The first season of the Brasileirão Assaí was won by Vasco da Gama. The current champions are Botafogo.
