Nottinghamshire FC History Notts Magdala was founded in 1895 by Bishop Gwynne. Up until 1902 the club played friendlies. In 1902/03 a second XI was started. This group of players decid-ed to stay together and broke away to form a new club called Notts Magdala Amateurs. A title they kept until 1906 until they became the Magdala Amateurs that still exist today. In 1904 the Midland Amateur Alliance was formed and Notts Magdala were a founder members. MAA league fixtures were supplemented by friendlies against Amateur teams like Corinthian Casuals (who at that time made up the majority of the England team!) and Old Carthusians (who were beaten F.A. Cup finalists in 1881) In 1905/06, as one of the strongest amateur clubs in the country, the team reached the final of the Notts Senior Cup. They defeat-ed Notts County Reserves 3-1 in the semi finals, before losing 4-1 to Nottingham Forest Reserves in the final at the City Ground. In 1908 the club dropped the name Magdala and became simply Nottinghamshire F.C. The club celebrated its new name by adopt-ing its now familiar green and white halves and winning its first MAA Championship. The club began their famous Easter tours of Europe this year and included a game against the Vienna Cricket and Football Club - who later became Austria Vienna. In 1908 the club were honoured to have two players, JD Barns-dale and NVC Turner, represent England at Amateur level. In 1910 the club reached the semi finals of the F.A. Amateur Cup. In 1927 the club reached the Notts Senior Cup Final again, this time losing to Mansfield Town at Field Mill. The 1970s sparked the most successful period in the club's histo-ry to date as they secured the MAA title on four occasions and appeared in six MAA Senior Cup Finals. The strength of the club can be gauged by noting that at one point the club provided seven players for the MAA representative side. The club reclaimed glory in the 21st Century with two MAA Senior Cup wins in three years.
