About Matalan & Diamonds

Formed in 2003, Matalan and Diamonds were formed out of staff at the Lincoln Matalan store (098). Since then many of those staff have moved on to other workplaces but remained as the core of the team. Over the years the team has been added to be current Matalan employees and other local players. The team spent most of their early years playing friendlies against other local team including Asda, Sainsburys and Clayton's Carpets. In 2008, the team joined the North Kesteven Sunday Leisure Leagues, finishing bottom in their debut season. The league was then relocated to Yarborough Sports Centre where the club enjoyed many seasons of competetive football. The team gained promotion from the First Division and then finshed safely midtable in their first season of Premier Division football. The team were eventually relegated but regained promotion at the first time of asking. In their second season back in the top flight, the Diamond achieved their best ever finish, third. In early 2013, with the team recuiting younger, more talented players, the club left Leisure Leagues and moved to a more local league, Lincoln Soccer Sixes, at Rustons Sports Club.
