GDL Athletic 1st Team

Originally founded in 2003 by a group of mates, the club has gone through a number of changes over the years most notably being the change in club name. There are few remaining who would remember the old days of 'Deers Leap Athletic' and the Deers Leap pub, a local which has now made way for the new health centre soon to open on the Droitwich road. But things change and so did we, we moved to the Goodrest and in sticking with our roots aptly renamed the team Goodrest DeersLeap - GDL As with all great teams like the Man united '99, the Arsenal invincibles '04 or even the Liverpool '84 legends it takes time and dedication to achieve your goals and thus set the foundations for years to come. GDL now moves into its 10th year as a sunday league outfit and in doing so we can boast a well established, well run, hard working and dedicated team who will be looking to mount a serious title challenge this season. We have talent throughout the squad which would have Mancini and Di Mateo fighting for there signitures!! This season also see's a new manager take the helm - GDL club legend and all time worst dressed sunday league footballer ever Sammy Engele! He is a player who carries a never say die attitude into every game and works hard to the final whistle, Sammy show's comitment and dedication to the game that few can match. Having spent sveral years working at Worcester Tech College organising and coordinating various events he should have no problem managing a 'simple' sunday league side. If some of his passion and work ethic can rub off on the rest of the team then this could prove to be a very exciting year for GDL. As a final note we are always looking to strengthen the squad. We are hosting a club open day in July (please see news) to scout for new talent and hopefully fill those few areas which will help take GDL from a good club to a great one! Please don't feel shy or intimidated about contacting us, we also have a well run 'A' team currently playing in Sunday Division 5.
