WS Hobnob FC 0 vs 3 Sherington Athletic

Thanks to those who came to watch us yesterday as we hosted Sherington Athletic of Milton Keynes in the Berks&Bucks Junior Trophy semi final.

Unfortunately it was the visitors who ran out winners in the end in a game that was hard fought by both sides.

It was 0-0 at the break, with Sherington perhaps shading it with the better chances. They would have lead at half time had a goal not been (correctly) ruled out for a foul on our ‘keeper.

Frustratingly the deadlock was broken by the visitors straight after the break, with a looping far post header from a corner.

A difficult 25mins then followed as we expended a lot of energy and creating little. Sherington were able to control much of the play and the ball just wouldn’t stick for us.

With the final push in the last 15mins, gaps opened up. The defence were caught square by an incisive through ball from midfield, which the forward put away emphatically for 0-2.

A third followed in similar fashion as we had 9 men ahead of the ball in a last desperate push.

The result was the right one and we wish Sherington all the best for the final. Losing to the eventual winners would be satisfactory at least.

Moving on, there’s still a lot to play for. We have the opportunity to press for the League, but we’ve got to pick ourselves from the cup disappointment and throw everything at it.
