A trip to Merley Cobham Girls resulted in a defeat for our first game of the season. With several players returning to their former club the Merley tactics were clear to see from the start, be very physical and very direct!
The first half was very even with both teams creating few opportunities and our defence were dealing well with the constant long balls from Merley. Chances up front were limited, Aimee and Molly both having shots from distance as they were often crowed out by the Merley defence. Lauren was making some excellent runs down the left to try and create some chances.

The second half started in much the same way as the first half, but within 12 minutes of the re-start a long ball caught us out and the Merley striker went through to make it 0-1. A nasty injury to Mya took the edge off the second half. Merley scored a second goal and it looked like it wouldn't be our day. Aimee hit the bar with a free-kick late on and was also given a yellow card by the referee, who seemed like he didn't want give us much else.

We will learn from the game and take things forward as a team. When we did try to play football we looked good, with some good passing moves and breaks down the wings.
