Wimborne Bow Out In Semi-Final.

The teams’ Hampshire cup semi-final was to be played against Andover New Street on the grass at Canford School in a well played fixture over the last few years. Added to our longer term injuries to Sophia and Aimee, the team were minus Maisie, Grace, Emilie and Belle.

A very dominant start possession wise from a different looking Andover team to that faced earlier in the season. An odd first half in many ways, Wimborne under pressure for long periods without Brooke being fully tested in goal although with a couple of chances to take the lead themselves. For all Andover’s possession they could not find the quality to fully open up a stubborn defence.

The beginning of the second 45 minutes was to prove pivotal, within 30 seconds of the restart finding themselves a goal down, a hurried defensive clearance giving the easiest of finishes (0-1). Another unusual defensive error with 20 minutes remaining ended any hope of a realistic comeback against what has to be said, a very strong opponent on the day, Andover able to score un-opposed past an un-protected GK (0-2). With the team now re-shaped in a last ditch effort to find a goal, space was left in behind and the visitors took full advantage, this time a well constructed goal with only a few minutes remaining (0-3).

POM: Laila (A real affect in midfield, unfazed, played simply)

Summary:

Made it easy for a strong opponent on the day. Competed well as always but lacked ‘that something’ to turn the tide. Better in the final 20 mins although by that time it seemed a real uphill task and proved it in the end.
