A first league win of 2020 for the Quay a much needed one after dropping down to 10th place after spending most of January invested in an epic cup run.

Jay Brown and Ben Mcdermott replaced Joe Fell and Luke Taylor in the only changes from last weeks win over Prudhoe with Lee Crammond captaining the side.

Wideopen had former Saint Mark Wilkinson in midfield a popular player in his time here making 69 appearances and scoring 5 goals.

Strong winds and a bobbly pitch made the game very hard to watch with both teams making numerous errors and the ball spending most of the time off the pitch.

Brandon Williams went clean through halfway through the first half but fired his effort over before Ryan Mcgorrigan flashed a powerful effort over the bar after a great turn on the edge of the box.

The Quay took the lead through a great strike from youngster Louis Hutton who took aim from 30 yards and his effort took a deflection before finding the top corner past Wideopen player manager Leeroy Odd in the home goal.

The second half saw the Saints waste numerous chances to seal the game with Alex Foreman, Connor Rafferty and Joe Connor missing great oppurtunities to finish the game.

With only a one goal lead the Saints were then put under a spell of pressure from the home side who had the wind with them to force a few corners and efforts that were well dealt with by Willington keeper Ellis Burns and a solid looking defence with centre half Jay Brown outstanding.

The game was finally wrapped up in the last 5 minutes with a double from Joe Connor first slotting past Odd after a great flick through from sub Dylan Adamson before he tapped home after the veteran Odd had somehow kept out his previous two strikes from close range.

The Quay travel to 4th placed Blyth FC next Saturday in what is a big game if they are to keep up with the promotion push,
