Joe Connor's first hat-trick for the Saints earned the club their first win of the new season in a tight affair at the barking dog.
Whitburn took the lead in the first 5 minutes as there striker took advantage of Noel Clynchs error to race on and fire past Peter Lowery.
The lead didn't last long as winger Connor pulled the morg level taking on two men before firing in left footed.
The game went scrappy at the end of the first half with both team having a player booked after a wrestling bout appeared in the midfield Ian Graham booked for us.
Just before half time the mercurial Connor twisted and turned past 3 players before bending the ball home from 12 yards.
Whitburn levelled 10 minutes into the second half as a corner wasn't dealt with properly the number 7 reacted first to fire the ball home from the edge of the box.
But the winner came with 20 minutes left veteran Mark Henderson worked hard to steal the ball from the whitburn no4 before sliding the ball across goal for Connor to tap home for his hat-trick.
Whitburns keeper almost saved his side a point but his header looped just wide in the last action of the game.
