Wigmore's cup run ended in the first round of the JLT with a disappointing loss.
Westfield began brightly whilst Wigmore took their time to get to grips with the pace of the match and Westfield opened the scoring from a set piece to take a deserved lead. This goal however sparked Wigmore into life and spurred the team on. Some nice passages of play followed and Wigmore showed they can more than just compete at this level of football and swiftly scored two cracking strikes to turn the deficit into a lead. The half time whistle blew and with Wigmore now shooting downhill in the second half.
Sadly the lead at half time was as good as it got for Wigmore as experience and desire from Westfield came to the fore. Wigmore were unable to wrestle control back of the match and their opponents scored 3 unanswered second half goals to win the match 4-2.
Wigmore need to learn and learn quickly that teams will press and be on them at all times and more desire and fight needs to be shown in games like this, however there are some positives to be taken from the game and plenty to build on. Wigmore will meet Westfield again in the league looking to right the wrongs of this match.
