Pre-Game team news
With the international qualifiers over, the Slade welcome back O'Brien, Ross, Pierce and Bergess, with Marques unavailable due to work commitments. Other absentees include long term exam taker Tille and, Wood, with his career threatening dodgy finger. Returning to the squad is new signing Ben Lewis who might have a broken wrist, or might not have, courtesy of the shuffler Rodger. Mitch Beetlestone also plays his first gameof the season at left back. Surprise team selection leaves O'Brien on the bench possibly after skipping training for.. sorry, whatever happens at training stays at training.
First Half
Typical slow start to the game for the Wanderers with play becoming scrappy with no real passes being played. It was Hunstman who took the lead with the Beetle brothers doing their best to get skinned by an 85 year old slow motioning it down the wing to set up a header that found the bottom bins. Standard Slade start. After getting into the game more, a quick free kick by Harris found S.Beetlestone to charge down the wing leaving the defence standing to slot the ball home. 1-1. Oh, and Coney missed a few open goal half chances, he's beginning to make the post christmas Ticehurst look prolific... Half time.
Second Half
Better start for Walderslade with chances becoming more regular and Callum Rodger having two goals ruled out for 'offside', which explains his past 30 goals a season, counting offside goals to his tally. It took 10 minutes for the slade to go ahead with Matt Stockbridge crossing for Armour to head home to relieve some pressure off of the team. Soon after, a short corner from S.Beetle found Stockbridge who 100% crossed the ball into the top corner claiming he meant it, which, he didn't. A cross from Beetlestone found Pierce who used that fat arse of his to cushion the ball home, although there was a possibility of an own goal, whatever the case, sharky was chuffed. Ross, O'Brien and Bergess entered the play with O'Brien calming play down and Rossy flexing his shooting boots on a few occasions, with Bergess making his cameo striker appearance. There was just about enough time for The Hunstman to get a tuna sent off and a cheese his second goal of the game. Full time 4-2.
Post Match verdict
Need to become more physical and clinical. Fast. The opposition were poor make no mistake, yet we made them look good at times. Man of the match Harris finally plays like he's supposed to, sitting and battling, winning plenty of headers. Sam Beetlestone puts in plenty of work rate and great challenges (mainly due to some shite touches..) and scored a smart goal. Special mention to the showman juggling the ball in the opposition area, probably because he was too scared to cross the ball.. Still, it is a win and we are still on the road to the Garrison once again.
Park Regis Sheppey next week, we know what to expect, the name says it all really.
