Match Report

The Quiche met the hitherto undefeated League leaders Eastern Suburbs on Saturday, and for the second consecutive week were unlucky to come away with a 2-1 defeat.

Despite having the best of the first half, with several scoring attempts coming close, Quiche conceded a simple goal from a corner, with the ball bobbling around the area and eventually falling to a Suburbs player who struck it home.

The Suburbs provided the referee for the first half, and he produced a number of decisions which were, to say the least, less than impartial. He reappeared as linesman for the second half, and continued his approach by flagging furiously for offside whenever the ball entered the Suburbs half.

Despite his efforts, Quiche dominated the rest of the game, but once again the final pass eluded them. MP managed to conjure a goal from nowhere to give the some hope, but in what was virtually the only real foray into the Quiche area, Suburbs were awarded a penalty which was duly converted.

Constant pressure for the remainder of the game failed to produce what would have been a deserved equaliser. There was general agreement amongst the many knowledgeable spectators that the Quiche were worth at least a draw, but it was not to be.

Man of the Match (again) was Jono1 for his non-stop energy and enthusiasm, although it has to be said that hearts are in mouths whenever he is harrying an opponent one-on-one in the penalty area.

Tom provided his usual mix of elegance and aggression, with the occasional flash of brute force. Phil returned from maternal duties and his combination with Luke gave an element of solidity to the defence, which would have been further strengthened had Alex been able to overcome a 2 centimetre bruise to his leg.

Despite his advancing years, MP showed some nice touches and David, following his speculative goal from distance in a previous match, tried the same again. This time the only thing in danger was a passing seagull.

Josh/Robbie/Harry covered almost every inch of the pitch and produced several good runs. In addition he bought me a drink, probably his best move of the afternoon.

Despite the final score, this was an improved performance from the Quiche which bodes well for the rest of the season.

Next week's fixture is in the wilds of Papakura - make sure your passport is valid.

GO THE QUICHE !!!!
