Over the course of 70 minutes plus added time, Dortmund delivered a commanding second half performance, running out 6-1 winners in an emphatic display of attacking football and defensive resilience. Referee Mason oversaw the 11-a-side contest, which saw Dortmund dominate proceedings after an early scare.
Tiki Taka Dortmund lined up in a classic 4-3-3 formation, deploying Kamsy Anajemba in goal. The back four featured Nikita Velicka at right back, Archie Hunt and Ayo Bamgboye as the central defensive pairing, and Oscar Manders on the left. In midfield, Mustafa Farag took up the right midfield berth, Zac Leach operated centrally, and Yasin Mohammed occupied the left midfield role. The front three consisted of Brajan Staszkowicz on the right wing, Favour Ajumobi leading the line as striker, and Alex Maoneo on the left wing. The substitutes bench included Andrew-Franz Nkemka, Seka Sewagudde, Sonic Leung, Zac Humphries-Deveney, Kain Woodside, and Inno Maoneo.
The 4-3-3 setup was designed to provide width and fluidity in attack, with the wide forwards expected to stretch the opposition defence and create chances, while the midfield trio balanced defensive duties with creative responsibilities. Defensively, the full-backs were tasked with supporting the attack but primarily securing their flanks, while the central defenders focused on maintaining solidity at the back.
From the first whistle, Dortmund showed defensive intent. Zac Leach made an early defensive header in the opening minute, setting the tone for a disciplined backline. Ayo Bamgboye was quick to follow with a crucial tackle in the third minute, preventing an Atherton chance and asserting Dortmund’s defensive authority. Archie Hunt then demonstrated his vision with a long pass in the fourth minute, initiating an attack from deep. Hunt’s defensive work continued with a well-timed tackle in the seventh minute, further frustrating the Panthers.
On the offensive front, Alex Maoneo’s long pass in the ninth minute carved open a chance, though striker Favour Ajumobi’s subsequent attempt went wide. Bamgboye again proved vital at the back with another tackle in the eleventh minute, while goalkeeper Anajemba produced a full stretch save in the twelfth, denying Atherton’s early efforts. Zac Leach cleared a dangerous ball in the thirteenth minute, preventing another Panthers opportunity.
The first substitutions came swiftly at the quarter-hour mark. Andrew-Franz Nkemka replaced Favour Ajumobi up front, while Seka Sewagudde came on for right back Nikita Velicka, signalling tactical adjustments from Dortmund. Oscar Manders contributed defensively with a tackle in the eighteenth minute, maintaining the team’s defensive discipline.
Dortmund’s slow start to the first half finally caught up with them when Atherton Town Panthers opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, briefly unsettling the home side. Dortmund responded with a substitution in the 25th minute, Sonic Leung replacing Alex Maoneo on the left wing, injecting fresh energy into the attack.
Brajan Staszkowicz’s cross in the 31st minute created another chance, with Nkemka’s shot saved by the opposition goalkeeper. Mustafa Farag headed clear a threat in the 34th minute, preventing a scoring opportunity. The half concluded at 35 minutes with the scoreline 1-0 to Atherton Town Panthers.

The 55th minute saw a double substitution: Alex Maoneo returned to the pitch replacing Staszkowicz, while Nikita Velicka came back on for Mustafa Farag. Velicka’s shot was saved in the 57th minute, but moments later Sonic Leung scored from close range with a right-footed finish inside the box, assisted by Velicka.
