St Georges 1st team showed their grit, character and professionalism in a game against a very strong Kingston Grammar side.
KGS dominated the early stages of the game, with their attacking fullbacks forcing SGC to defend very deep.
However they could not capitalise on their chances, thanks to poor finishing, some excellent saves from Miller, and some Winston Reid-esque defending from Farmer and Fagent.
KGS eventually scored after a deflected shot that struck the post, deflecting towards an opposition player who squared it for an open goal; 1-0.
Despite this SGC swiftly equalised on the stroke of the 40th minute, after some lovely football on the right hand side Whiteley found himself in possession in the opposition box after a through ball from Oliver, and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper under pressure from the KGS captain.
The second half was a much more even affair, with Morrison and Williams making an impact from the bench, and very quickly SGC took the lead with a superb free kick from Safavi- are you watching Mr Southgate? KGS equalised midway through the half against the run of play, and despite SGC’s dominance in the latter stages of the game, the match ended at 2-2.
