Costello Cougars 0 vs 3 Sproatley Juniors U17

On a damp cold October Sunday morning Sproatley started their quest to progress in this seasons East Riding Dr Lilley U18 Cup.

Costello were a busy team looking to cause Sproatley some problems. However the first half proved Sproatley had the class to sweep their opponents aside with goals from Herbison following a scramble in the goalmouth, Taylor with a Ronaldo-esq free kick and a tidy finish from a well positioned Newton following a cross from Havler.

In truth there should have been more goals As Sproatley weren’t really clinical enough when it mattered.

The second half was short of any real qualify as Sproatley settled for what they had. In fairness there were plenty of chances but the Costello keeper stood up to all of them.

In summary it was still a success, in reality in order to fulfil the true potential there needs to be a sharper cutting edge. The quicker and more composed the play is from the middle the more clear cut the play can be in the final third. Sharper player as. reaction when the chance was created would have seen a wider gap in the final scoreline.

But a win is a win and to the quarter finals we go.
