Normal service resumed today with the Colts winning 7-1 against Castle Donnington. It could easily have been 15-2.
Birks was given a start and had an excellent first half, never flinching out of any tackle and passing nicely to his teammates. Tom Hunt grabbed another hat trick although his striking partners could have had one each.
Hunt scored on 17, being fed the ball by Birks. However, Castle Donnington scored a minute later. An extremely tight angled shot flashed into the top corner, Bate claiming the ball went through the side netting. Hunt added the third, a deflected shot off the back of a defender. The killer goal came right on half time from Welsh, who battled for an over the top ball from Carter before stealing the ball from the keeper who only had one hand on it.
The Colts dominated the second half. Vardy and Hamisi were excellent in the centre of the pitch. Carter marshalling the back and McLaughlin winning all of his sprints. Crowder scored his goal connecting with a Hunt pass. Hunt then raced onto a through ball from Hamisi to get his hat trick. Hardy added the sixth following in a Crowder shot that came back off the post. Welsh got the last when Hardy headed on a pass for him to run onto to. Bate was called into action late on with a fine low save.
Next week sees the top of the table clash that could effectively decide the title.
