On Saturday 22 November 2025, SKFC Blues U13 travelled to the Verdin Exchange Playing Field to face Winsford Town FFF Black U13s in a league away fixture, kicking off promptly at 9:30am. The 70-minute contest ended in a 2-0 defeat for SKFC Blues, who struggled to break down a resolute home side.

SKFC Blues lined up in a 3-1-4-2 formation, deploying a three-man defence with Lucas Simpson on the right, Daniel O’Keefe centrally, and Jack Lundy on the left. Finley Carroll took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper. Jasper Heselwood operated as the lone holding midfielder, tasked with shielding the back three and recycling possession. Ahead of him, the midfield quartet consisted of Jake Blackburn on the left, Jenson May on the right, and Harry Horsfield alongside Bradley Murrell occupying central attacking midfield roles. Up front, Alex Savage led the line on the right with David Matuszewski partnering him on the left. This setup was designed to provide width and creativity through the attacking midfielders while maintaining defensive solidity with a compact backline and a single pivot. No substitutes were named for SKFC Blues in this fixture.

The match began with both sides probing cautiously, but Winsford Town FFF Black soon asserted themselves with sharper passing and greater intensity. SKFC Blues found it difficult to establish rhythm in the final third, with the home defence well organised to repel early advances.

As the game progressed towards the half-hour mark, Winsford Town capitalised on a defensive lapse to open the scoring, putting SKFC Blues on the back foot. Despite their efforts, the Blues were unable to respond before the whistle for half-time blew at 35 minutes, leaving them trailing by a single goal.

In the second half, SKFC Blues attempted to increase their attacking impetus. Bradley Murrell, who was later named Player of the Match for his tireless work and creativity in midfield, sought to unlock the opposition defence with incisive passes and intelligent movement. However, Winsford Town’s disciplined defensive shape and quick transitions limited the Blues’ opportunities.

The home side doubled their advantage midway through the half, further dampening SKFC Blues’ hopes of a comeback. Attempts from Alex Savage and David Matuszewski to penetrate the final third were met with stout resistance, and the Blues struggled to carve out clear chances.

Despite the setback, SKFC Blues maintained their commitment and pressed forward in search of a goal, but the match ended 2-0 in favour of Winsford Town FFF Black. The Blues will look to learn from this encounter as they prepare for their next league fixture.
