Today’s First Division game saw Shaftesbury Ladies travel to local rivals Gillingham Ladies. The game started well with both teams creating early chances. Chelsea making a vital save to keep the score 0-0 after 5 mins. Both teams were defending resolutely but it was new signing Nikki who broke the deadlock after a superb finish through the advancing keepers legs. First sub for Shaftesbury, ?? Tracy ?? Lily. Shaftesbury’s confidence increased as they dominated possession for the remainder of the half only to concede with an excellent shot from the Gill striker minutes before the break.

Shaftesbury Ladies made a few tactical changes at half time (?? Kellie ?? Ellie) as they pressed ahead seeking a winning goal. Great central midfield performances from Ro and Scev creating excellent opportunities for the wide players (Ellie and Lily) to exploit. 75th min sub ?? Jordan ?? G. Nikki went close twice and Lily was just inches from scoring on her debut after a long range effort. The pressure finally paid off 15 minutes from time when G broke through the middle of the centre halves and lobbed the advancing keeper with an eccentric finish. The strong crowd went wild after a well deserved lead from the visitors who dominated the game for the majority of the game. 80th min subs ?? Stacey + Lily ?? Tam + Izzy.
The match looked to be over as the game went in to injury time. Unfortunately the long awaiting win for SFC ladies was taken away from them in virtually the last kick of the game as a wicked left footed free kick took the keeper by surprise, sneaking in to the far post.

This was a super local Derby with an excellent standard of Ladies Football. A great game for the spectators with great spirit shown from both teams.
