Shaftesbury Ladies 1 - 5 Gillingham Ladies

Yesterday Shaftesbury hosted Gillingham for an evening friendly over in Zeals. Both teams came out fighting in the first 10 mins, with both teams having shots on goal. However, Gill were the first to manage to find the net (10mins) by curling in a corner. Following this, Shaftesbury held there own defending strongly and moving play into the oppositions half. After 35mins we decided to make our first subs ?? Tracy + Lucy ?? Ro + Maddy. Play continued and unfortunately in the 41st min a yellow was awarded to Emma, and a penalty given to Gill to make it 0-2 just before half time.

HT 0-2

Going into the second half we decided to change things up into a 4-4-2 ?? Kellie + Emma ?? Georgia + Jo. Gill quickly managed to hit the back of the net, but Shaftesbury reshaped with Katie and Ali both getting shots away but sadly didn’t manage to find the net. ?? Scev ?? Lucy. Lucy came on fighting both defensively and attacking! In the 62nd min Gill managed to score from a free kick. Yet following this, Shaftesbury had 80% of the possession for the rest of the game, getting several shots away and making a couple more changes (?? Maddy + Stacey + Jordan ?? Tracy + Holly + Ali). This led up to a cracking cross from Ali and Katie with the finish. Following this we were also awarded a penalty, but unfortunately didn’t hit the net. A couple last subs before the final whistle (?? Lucy + Tracy ?? Kellie + Jordan). Gill managed to sneak in another goal in the 88th min.

The ladies all played well and sadly the score line doesn’t reflect the play and fight from the team, but we look ahead excited for the season!
