Football's a funny old game, Saint, and when your luck's out it's even harder. Last night The Revs hit the woodwork five times, played excellently, created chance after chance, defended really well, dominated possession, made their keeper work his arse off, and still lost 3-1.

Right from the off we were up for this and had a decent squad out to boot - Matty in goal, James, Ty, Lew, Dave P, Dave H and Gaz all raring to go, Jamie Allen even necking one in fresh from a holiday visiting the museums and galleries of Tenerife. After an excellent performance last time out we were confident, which of course meant we were 1-0 down within 5 minutes of kick off.

The facts are these really, we did let in three goals either through getting caught on the break or out of position, they did have a few chances, but that didn't really matter. What did was how we played - excellently - and also that we did things a bit differently too.

For a start we bullied them without going too far and rubbing the ref up the wrong way. If we had have done I'd have been sinbinned for that handball, as it was he copped a blind one to the calls for a booking. We competed hard and they didn't fancy it by the end, lovely stuff.

Secondly we stayed really positive, getting the ball forward at all opportunities. Twice in the game a five or ten minute spell passed with us bang on top, pegging them back in their half and winning corners, kick-ins, and working the keeper. Never ahead in the game we kept going regardless, which, again, was lovely stuff.

Thirdly we defended as a unit, tracking men, getting in a line, squeezing the space and making them work for everything. There were no crazy last ditch challenges because we were too organised to need them. For a third time, lovely stuff.

On another night we would get more than James' very good goal out of the pressure we put on, Dave P's snapshot might go in, my volley might notch, Ty's headers bag, but it wasn't to be. We might be shit out of luck but we're getting into some form, bring on next week.
