Merstham 1 vs 1 Reigate Hill FC

In what was a big evening for the league, over 50 people turned up to watch the big top of the table clash. The first half was tough for Reigate but we ended up going in at the half in front. Merstham battled hard and won set piece after set piece which were dealt with relatively comfortably from Reigate but the pressure mounted. We scored against the run of play when Billy played Alex in for our first real chance and he rounded the keeper and slotted home. Driver gave a penalty away 5 minutes from the half after trying to swipe away a clearance from a corner but a Merstham player got their leg in the way. The penalty fortunately crashed against the bar and Rob cleared. Lewi also made a fantastic save shortly before the penalty keeping a close range header out.

We started with our tails up in the 2nd half but Merstham equalised not far in after another set piece lead to a strong header which Lewi was unfortunate to keep out. We took charge for the rest of the half but failed to get in front, Smith went closest when he poked one just over the bar. They had a man sent off for a second yellow ten minutes from time and Billy went close just striking across the face.

The league is out of our hands now unfortunately but we are still in the race. If Merstham lose one of their last 2 games and we can beat Caterham PL in our last game then we will be champions.
