PS Olympic U12 South 1 vs 7 Lickhill Colts Youth U12 R

Game of 2 halves, ish. First 18 minutes were similar to some of the earlier games, the boys were not closing down the ball, giving Lickhill too much time and space resulting in 5 goals conceded. While the boys were off the pace, we as coaches have to hold our hands up for not getting the tactics and positions right. We wanted stability but too many moves and unfamiliar positions created the opposite effect. Once we moved players round and put them in their more natural positions we were more competitive. Its not always about the boys making mistakes and learning - we as coaches have to do the same.

For the last 10 minutes of the first half and the entire second half we were a different team. We chased the ball, didn't let them have free shots, tackled aggressively, passed the ball better and were more direct. We outnumbered them in chances and were unlucky not to have 3 or 4 goals. Real credit to the boys for keeping their heads up and going for it after that start. It would have been easy to let heads drop and had a cricket score but we will all learn from that performance. Don't forget the first 18 minutes, but do focus on the last 42. We're so close to getting it right, getting a result to match the ability and desire we are showing.
