Plymouth Phoenix Girls long awaited trip to Tiverton to play their semi-final game was worth the wait as they came away with a 6-2 triumph over Twyford Spartans. Phoenix were very dominant throughout the game and were guilty of squandering a whole host of chances and could have been out of sight in the first half, however, these missed chances kept the game on a knife edge right up until half-time.
Amy Pridham opened the scoring for Phoenix when she finished off a right wing cross from player of the match Emily Ley. This lead was short lived with Twyford back on terms with a solo effort by the ever dangerous Twyford striker whose speed was a constant threat in the first half. Plymouth Phoenix then missed a chance after chance with wayward shooting or shots straight at the keeper when well placed. Finally Jade Packer restored Phoenix's lead scoring from close range after a left wing corner. Phoenix were then made to pay for their missed chances as a counter attack by Twyford led to their pacey striker getting her 2nd goal of the game with another solo effort to finish with a great strike into the roof of the net. HT 2-2
Phoenix continued to dominate the 2nd half and completely restricted Twyford to midfield play and one attempt on the Phoenix goal. At the other end of the pitch, Phoenix continued to be guilty of missing chances until Amy Pridham finished from close range after another right wing cross from Ley. Hollie Ellis was upended 20 yards from goal to earn Phoenix a direct free kick. Up stepped Jade Packer to crash home the free kick into the roof of the net to put daylight between the teams. Ella Trotter then finished off a team move from close range to score her first ever goal in girls football. The ever dangerous Hollie Ellis completed the scoring when she let fly from inside the box into the far corner of the net.
Congratulations girls and well done for a great team performance.
