Moors Youth 3 v 1 Plymouth Phoenix
Hollie Ellis
Phoenix suffered their first defeat of the season with two own goals proving costly. Phoenix with the wind at their backs on a slippery pitch took the lead on 10 mins when good play by Mia George and Amy Pridham, who played the ball into Hollie Ellis to finish with a sweet left foot drive into the roof of the net giving the goalkeeper no chance. Moors Youth came back at Phoenix and drew level on 19 minutes when a cross come shot flew into the far corner of the net. The game flowed really well considering the conditions with both teams creating chances but failing to capitalise on them. HT 1-1
The 2nd half continued in the same vein, but an incorrect decision by the referee to award a corner instead of a goalkick relsulted in a goal for Moors Youth. The corner being taken and as the ball came into the goalarea at waist height, the keeper patted the ball into her own net, a rare mistake indeed from a very good gk who had made some fine stops in this game. Phoenix had several chances to equalise but again failed to get their shots on target or shot straight at the gk. Moors increased their lead from another corner, this time the defender at the back post tried to turn with ball as it came into her but mistimed the turn and deflected the ball goalwards and into the net. There were still opportunities for Phoenix to get back into the game but alas the shooting boots were left at home.
The teams were evenly matched and both played their part in a very tense and thrilling game.
