On a crisp November morning, Newquay AFC Vets faced off against Gunnislake Gunnislake Veterans in a thrilling cup encounter at Butts Meadow. The match, which kicked off at 11:00 am, ended with Newquay emerging victorious with a scoreline of 2-1, securing their place in the next round of the competition.

Newquay lined up in their traditional 3-4-1-2 formation, a tactical choice aimed at providing a solid defensive base while allowing for width and attacking options. Damien Boyle took his place in goal, shielded by a back three consisting of Dave Grose on the right, Lee Rickard in central defence, and Paul Osborne on the left. The midfield was composed of Lee budge on the right, Andrew Miles and Chris Hall in central roles, and Xan O’toole on the left flank. The breakthrough came shortly before tee end of the game when with 10 minutes remaining Newquay's attacking prowess paid off. Lee Rickard found the net, sending the Newquay supporters into raptures. His goal was a result of a well taken corner from Andy Miles that showcased the team's fluidity and understanding of each other's play.

Gunnislake, now trailing, responded with urgency, pushing forward in search of an equaliser. In truth they never bothered Boyle as the defence reverted to a back 4 and comfortably snubbed any attacks that the home side could muster.

Newquay remained resolute and as the final whistle approached the referee, Michael McGregor, kept the match flowing, allowing the players to showcase their skills without unnecessary interruptions.
