Thornton Hibs 5 vs 0 Newburgh Juniors

A bad night at the office for Burgh as a mixture of bad defending and a good Thornton side put the game out of site in the first 45mins.

Newburgh fell behind after only 5mins when slack play in the middle of the park let Thornton in on the left hand side, the cross evaded everyone and was turned in at the back post. Newburgh tried to get a foothold in the game but we’re dealt a second blow on 14mins as a short back pass saw Robertson come from his box to clear, the ball bobbled over his foot as he went to clear allowing the striker a run in to goal and tapped home into an empty net.

2-0 became 3-0 on 34mins as the ball made its way down the Newburgh right, the cross came in and the striker beat Robertson to the ball to knock home. With the defence trying to regroup Thornton quickly made it 4. A shot from the edge of the box was deflected right into the path of the onrushing winger who took a touch and slotted past the keeper.

The first half scoring wasn’t complete as on half time a strike from the edge of the box made its way thro a host of bodies into the bottom corner.

5-0 down at half time and some choice words in the dressing room saw Newburgh come out second half and restrict Thornton to few chances while not really threatening at the other end.

The damage had been done first half against a strong Thornton team. Newburgh had no time to lick their wounds as the quickly had to move on to another tough game against Stirling University at the weekend.
