In a contested league tie at Leisure United Jericho Lane on 23 February 2025, MSB Woolton U16 Di Stefano faced off against their club rivals, MSB Woolton U16 Rossi. The match, which kicked off at 9:00 am, ended in a disappointing 3-1 defeat for Di Stefano, who struggled to find their rhythm against a well-organised Rossi side.

Di Stefano lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, a tactical setup designed to provide width and attacking options. Tony B took his place in goal, while a back four comprised Sam B on the right, Jacob F and Aiden P in central defence, and Jack W on the left. The midfield trio featured Jack T on the right, Oliver M in the centre, and Khutso D on the left, tasked with linking play and supporting the forwards. Up front, Max D operated on the right wing, Oscar R led the line as the striker, and Christie D occupied the left forward position, all expected to press high and create scoring opportunities.

The substitutes were not listed for this match, leaving the starting eleven to carry the burden of the contest.

The match began with both teams probing for weaknesses, but it was Rossi who struck first in the 18th minute. A well-executed move culminated in a goal that set the tone for the first half. Di Stefano struggled to respond, and just ten minutes later, Rossi doubled their lead in the 28th minute, leaving Di Stefano with a mountain to climb.

However, the tide seemed to turn in the 32nd minute when Max D found the net with a stunning strike from outside the box. His right-footed effort gave Di Stefano a glimmer of hope, reducing the deficit to 2-1 and energising the team as they headed towards half-time.

As the teams returned for the second half, Di Stefano aimed to build on their momentum. Unfortunately, their hopes were dashed just two minutes in when Rossi was awarded a penalty, which they converted in the 47th minute, restoring their two-goal advantage at 3-1.

Despite the setback, Di Stefano continued to push forward, with Jack T particularly influential in midfield, orchestrating play and attempting to rally his teammates. However, the Rossi defence held firm, thwarting any attempts to claw back into the match.

As the final whistle blew, Di Stefano were left to reflect on a match where they had moments of promise but ultimately fell short against a more clinical Rossi side. The defeat serves as a learning experience for Di Stefano as they look to regroup and improve in their upcoming fixtures.
