I think a cold Thursday night away to Haverhill is akin to a cold Tuesday night away to Stoke!
We knew going into this match it was going to be our toughest match to date and it certainly was. A well organised Haverhill side with plenty of pace who have played together since under 7s. Add to this the fact most of our boys had football after school for an hour, very little time to warm up AND Heston pulling out last min leaving us with only one sub.
Still, what’s fantastic about this group of boys is their work rate, grit and determination. Oh, and the fact they will always score plenty of goals coupled with the best keeper in Suffolk!
The result was emphatic. The quality from us on the ball was not the best, but driving home what struck me was how the boys reacted to letting a goal in. Bouncing back immediately with 3 quick goals, Zach giving Hugo a hug for his mistake, the level of effort. This attitude is why I think the world of these boys and why I believe this season is going to be special.
MOTM Oscar Barrett for his amazing work rate, getting a back post goal and fantastic attitude. Special mention to Tay for being a team player, playing three positions and scoring another screamer.
Sunday is the start of the season and this was the tune up we needed. Haverhill 1-5 RAIDERS
