It’s funny how much an awful pitch and a gutless referee can be such a leveller in terms of playing quality!

In pre season we played Clare and spanked them, despite them having 3 extra players on the pitch. Today however, we were up against a slightly improved team BUT a truly awful pitch!

Despite the pitch we could have gone in at half time 4-0 up least, but instead of hitting the corners of the goal we managed to pick out their keepers stomach every single time! We played a few boys higher up the pitch to try and let them get their first goals for the team, but it was a bad day at the office in front of goal. These things happen and it’s all part of the beautiful game. The biggest moment of the half was Oscar Kobylecki tearing into the box only to have his legs cut from under him… no pen was the refs cry…. YOU IDIOT was the cry from the RAIDERS bench!!

Half time we went back to normal service with Deeks, Andrews, Parker and Barrett in more forward roles and more direct two touch football. It was impossible to play our football and take players on, so balls over the top were needed.

It wasn’t long until we got our breakthrough with the impressive Everard breaking through and smashing a right footed drive into the left hand side of the goal. Even at 1-0 though we looked slightly nervous and it was clear we needed a second to calm us all down.

Our MOTM Kinglsey Cook then took it upon himself to drive forward beating 3 players before being crudely taken down just outside the box, it really was the only way anyone would have stopped him. Hugo Andrews stepped up and curled the freekick just under the bar to make it 2-0 and game over for Clare.

Everard then turned provider for Parker, whilst Parker then turned provider for Everard. 4-0 and job done.

Unfortunately the game was very difficult to enjoy due to bad injuries to Oscar Barrett and Oscar Kobylecki who will both likely miss the game against Ipswich mid week.

Not our finest game but we continue to find ways to win games.
