Merley Cobham Sports Youth 3 vs 5 Pen Mill Youth U16 Lioness

A home match with Pen Mill and we were looking to build on the performance last week. We got off to the ideal start with Abi scoring directly from a corner within 2 minutes. Corners from Abi were proving to be effective, twice she accurately picked out Merryn who caught the ball nicely on the volley. The second being a spectacular effort that hit the crossbar and unfortunately bounced down the wrong side of the line. Through balls were also effective with Merryn, Zoe B and Willow all having chances.

The game turned level on 12 minutes with Pen Mill scoring from a cross. A great through ball from Zoe P set Merryn free in the 26th minute and she finished low into the corner. Pen Mill scored from a cross again on 30 minutes, then again following some hesitant defending in the 32nd minute. The Merley girls came back instantly with Merryn firing a shot that went though the keeper. An even half with both teams in all-out attack mode!

A slow start to the second half allowed Pen Mill a goal in the 55th minute and it seemed like we’d go further behind when Ellie gave away a penalty. Lucky Daisy made a great save from the penalty to keep us in the game. Chances were limited in the second half and Pen Mill scored again on 64 minutes. There was enough time to make a come-back and some chances were created but unfortunately we couldn’t get past the Pen Mill keeper who was having a good second half.

The game ended in defeat but lots of positives to take forward into the next game.
