Quarry Green Guards 8 vs 3 L4 Football Academy

Following last weeks 7-1 victory we were brought back down to earth as we faced a Quarry Green side who had hit 5 without reply in their opener and punished our defensive frailties to make it two wins from two. Having lost both Jack & Jay due to illness the pack was shuffled with Connor coming in at right back and Johnny playing alongside Kalu at centre back. Despite being 2-0 down after just 7 minutes we still created very good chances, Jude Carter was through on goal and should have converted only to hit his shot straight at the keeper. Mikey struck the bar with a well hit free kick before finally getting one back with a long range wonder strike after 23 minutes. That should have been the springboard to get back into the game only for a disasterous last 10 mins of the first half which saw us go in at the break 5-1 down.

The second half performance was far better and we actually showed a bit of fight, despite Mikey taking his tally to 7 for the season with two more great goals it was at the back where we threw it away. Hard work will be required on the training pitch to help put this right ahead of next weeks County Cup 1st round tie vs Newton Le Willows.
