Evening all.

King Bill 2 Pymoor 4.

Our first defeat of preseason, taking our record to 3 wins and 1 defeat - 8 goals for, 6 against.

In truth, the result & our performance was something of a reality check; we have to be at our very best to consistently win games & to challenge for the league, and yesterday we were not at our very best.

Pymoor have some excellent players, as do we, but too often we made life too easy for them, as evidenced by the fact that we conceded twice as many goals in 90 minutes than our previous three games combined. More aggression, more conviction in our decision making & challenges & more personal responsibility is needed to beat the better footballing sides; we defeated the same Pymoor team 4-1 & Waterbeach Colts (the promoted Waterbeach) 3-2 toward the end of last season, so we are more than capable of doing this.

With all that said, it is preseason & there were some mitigating factors, such as several new & untested combinations on the pitch, and also me being horribly hungover & 'playing' the full 90 minutes: sorry??. In terms of positives, we also played plenty of flowing & incisive attacking football, scored both goals from open play and we actually created enough chances to have scored a few more.

MoM is Dan North. He ran tirelessly up top and I'd imagine their centre-backs will have had nightmares about him such was his persistence to get at them & beyond them. He scored both our goals, both well taken, with the first being about as deft & composed as you'll see at this level. That takes Dan's preseason tally to 5 in 4 games, and as alluded to above, as a team we're scoring exactly two goals per game, which I hope in the future will be enough to secure us at least a draw in the majority of matches.

Still plenty of reasons to be cheerful.

Up the Kings! Up the Bill!??
