Since the two teams combined in 2012 today was the thirteenth meeting between Horden Supporters and Peterlee Helford. The first round of the J&P McManus Cup was a a lot closer than the final scorer reflects. All credit to Helford who settled early with a game plan won on set pieces and their first corner was headed home on 12 minutes. Horden had two or three great opportunities to either draw level or even steal a first half lead but had to settle for 0-1 down on 45 minutes.

Straight from the kick off Helford won a corner to double their lead on 46 minutes followed by a long throw into the box on 52 minutes which fell nicely for a Helford player to tap in. 0-3 Horden pulled a goal back on 55 minutes with the best move of the game. Charlie Salicki's delivery down the left was finished well by the ever ready Jonathan Monaghan from eight yards. 1-3 Horden were experiencing a great spell of football but it just wasn't falling for the home side. Jack Pounder was introduced on 62 minutes and seven minutes later Joe Bell and Rob Mawson came on. Sadly Mawson was only on the field for three minutes when he was dismissed for dissent. Helford took full advantage and romped home with two late goals on 81 and 84 minutes to seal the Cup tie and progress to the second round.
